Metrogaine “The Baygaine”, Sunday 12th February, 2012

The Cartophiles kick off 2012 with a jaunt around Sydney's eclectic inner west, competing in the NSW Rogaining Association’s (NSWRA) annual Metrograine.

Rogaining is a team activity for people of all ages and levels of fitness. Everyone from elite athletes to families with young children can enjoy rogaining.  The parts of the course you visit are entirely up to you - there are no set routes and you don’t have to spend the whole time on the course.  The satisfaction comes in finding your way around the course according to the route you have chosen and navigating back to the finish within the time limit.

This 6 hour event starts at 9am on Sunday 12 February 2012. The event caters for everyone, from beginners to experienced competitors.  Teams are a minimum of two and a maximum of five competitors.

The course is part of metropolitan Sydney. Light refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the event.

There is an entry fee which covers food after the event, your map, information sheets and facilities at the hash house.  The entry fee is $28 per competitor, with a concession fee of $20 for anyone between 14 and 22 years of age, full time students, pensioners or unemployed.  Children under 14 are free.

The NSWRA claims the course setter has pleasant parkland locations for checkpoints and for having lattes at local cafes.  There will be no shortage of course options, water views and places to stop for refreshments along the way. There are also plenty of pram/child-friendly options too, if you are looking to compete in the family category. There may even be a chance/need to swim or walk the plank!

Teams compete in age/gender categories: Men, Women, Mixed, Under 23, Veteran (40+), Superveteran (55+). For all categories it is your age on the first day of competition.  There are also two special categories:

  • Novice - Must be the first Rogaine for all team members.
  • Family - The team members must include at least two members of the same family, who represent two generations. One must be a child under 18 years of age on the first day of competition.

Additionally, we’ll run a competition-within-the-competition for Cartophiles teams.

The course consists of a number of control sites that must be found. Controls sites will not have any markers.  Instead your clue sheet will have a description of the control site and a question relating to the site with multi choice answers.  Giving the correct answer is your proof you visited the control.

By entering this event you are becoming a member of NSWRA unless you are already a member of another state association. Membership lasts for 12 months from the date of the event.

Online entries for this rogaine close at midnight on Sunday 5th February, and postal entries must reach their destination by Friday 4th February
